There are different types of wall units. This unit is installed through the exterior wall of the house. This wall must not contain wires or pipes. A socket must be accessible and sufficient supply voltage. The standard 120 volts should be adequate, although some models may require the installation of making dedicated 240 volt supply. Avoid wall studs if possible, and the unit should be 12 to 60 inches above the floor to avoid attracting dust on the filter. They are useful for cooling additions or apartments where it is not practical installation of ducts. The compressor can be 50 feet away from the area to be cooled and the duct runs through an opening in the exterior of the building indoor air handler, mounted on a wall or hanging from a ceiling.

A window unit can be easily installed. Appropriate size selection is important. The correct unit of measure must be purchased to fit the selected window and mounting brackets needed. The air conditioner is slid into the opening and fastened to the brackets. Side extensions on the unit is attached to the window frame and the drain hose attached. The window is reduced to the air conditioning and opening edges sealed with caulk to prevent leakage or insect access.
